Nigerian nationals storm Nigerian embassy in Jakarta to protest immigration issues on June 25; remain vigilant and avoid any large gatherings as a precaution

Warning

Event

Nigerian nationals living in Indonesia attacked the Nigerian embassy in Jakarta on Thursday, June 25. The embassy was reportedly stormed and vehicles inside the compound were vandalised. The protests come amid discontent from Nigerian nationals towards their alleged maltreatment by Indonesian immigration officials, in particular the recent incident whereby a Nigerian national reportedly fell from a building while escaping from immigration officials.

Further unrest and a heightened security presence at the embassy and in the vicinity is possible in the immediate term.

Advice

Individuals in Jakarta are advised to monitor developments, avoid all protests as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments.
