Taiwan: LGBTQ+ supporters gather for Pride march in Taipei June 28

Event

An estimated 1200 people attended a Pride march in the capital Taipei on Sunday, June 28. Members of the LGBTQ+ community and their supporters gathered in front of the Liberty Square archway and marched to the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall and back. There was a much smaller attendance at the rally, which normally draws in tens of thousands of participants, due to coronavirus disease (COVID-19) concerns and heavy rains. The country's annual event is usually held in October, however, members of Taiwan's LGBTQ+ community reportedly felt it was important to do something this month, as many Pride Parades around the world were unable to take place due to COVID-19.
