Cattle rustlers kill 14 in armed attack on village in Niger state on August 12; further attacks possible in the near term

Gunmen killed at least 14 people and wounded others in a cattle rustling attack in Niger state on Wednesday, August 12. The attack occurred in the village of Ukuru in Mariga Local Government Area (LGA) at around 15:30 (local time). The assailants opened fire on the residents of the village and made off with several cattle. Security operations have been launched in response to the incident.

Further attacks are possible over the near term.
