Security forces killed at least one militant during clashes with members of the Abu Sayyaf group in Patikul (Sulu province) on Saturday, August 29. Fighting broke out on Saturday morning when troops encountered a group of militants in barangay Kabbon Takas. One soldier was killed, and seven others were injured in the clashes.
Further clashes are to be expected in the area over the near term.
