Puerto Rico: Rainfall and possible flooding forecast due to passing tropical storm through August 17

Tropical Storm Josephine forecast to bring adverse weather through August 17; isolated heavy rainfall and flooding possible

Warning

Event

The National Hurricane Centre (NHC) has forecast that Tropical Storm Josephine could bring heavy rainfall to isolated parts of the northern Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico through Monday, August 17, with minor flooding possible in Puerto Rico. The latest data indicates that the storm system is expected to pass northeast of the aforementioned islands over the weekend without making direct impact. However, tropical-storm-force winds are currently extending 130 km (80 mi) from the center of the storm, and those in the area are being advised to monitor the systems' progress. Josephine is forecast to weaken over the next 48 hours and dissipate in the next few days.

Heavy rainfall and resultant flooding are possible over the coming days, along with associated disruptions to business and transport.

Advice

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate possible transportation disruptions and power outages, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
