Trinidad and Tobago: Heavy rainfall causes flooding across Trinidad August 8

Heavy rains occurring between Friday, August 7, and Saturday, August 8, have produced flash flooding across Trinidad. Among the worst affected areas are Barrackpore, Penal, and Debe in Penal-Debe region, where a number of roads have been inundated. Flash flooding was also reported in Diego Martin on Friday. Although flooding has predominantly affected roads, authorities have received reports of residential flooding in Caroni, and at least one structure has collapsed in Calvary. Localized landslides and fallen trees have reportedly blocked a number of roads. The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has warned of the potential for flooding in low-lying areas along the course of the Caroni River. A riverine flood alert was issued on Saturday and remains in place until 18:00 (local time) on Sunday, August 9. No injuries or fatalities have been reported in connection with the incidents. An adverse weather alert remains in place for Trinidad and Tobago.
