Heavy rainfall between September 21-22 causes flooding in Jakarta and West Java province and results in fatalities and displaces hundreds; further rainfall and associated flooding expected in the coming days

Heavy rains on Monday, September 21, caused flooding and landslides in parts of West Java province, resulting in the death of two people. Flooding has also been reported in Jakarta. The worst hit areas of West Java have been Caringin and Cijeruk districts in Bogor regency, and Cicurug and Cisaat districts in Sukabami regency. Hundreds of residents have been displaced, commercial disruptions reported, and two people died and one is still missing in Sukabumi. Flooding has also hit many parts of Jakarta, with over 100 people displaced as of Tuesday, September 22. Disaster management officials have reported that 49 neighborhoods and 32 roads have been inundated by floodwaters.
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) forecasts further isolated rain in some areas through at least Thursday, September 24, which could lead to more flooding and associated disruptions to business and transport.
