A by-election is being held in Goroka (Eastern Highlands province) on Thursday, September 24, following a dispute regarding the returns of the 2017 general election. Authorities have deployed over 200 police personnel throughout the district in order to provide security for the poll after it was postponed by a week due to concerns regarding security and the use of cameras at polling stations. The poll had already been postponed two times following concerns regarding potential irregularities.
