Disruptions to traffic and gunfire have been reported in the city of Rio de Janeiro as the Military Police conduct security operations in Favela do Jacarezinho on Monday morning, October 19. Gunfire was reported in the early hours of Monday and authorities suspended train services around Belford Roxo station. Additionally, Avenida Dom Hélder Câmara, in Rio's Jacaré zone, and Rua Leopoldo Bulhões, near Manguinhos, are closed to traffic.

Police officers, including the Special Operations Battalion (BOPE), reinforced policing in the area with armored vehicles. There are no reports of casualties or arrests as of Monday morning.

Violent clashes and significant traffic disruptions are possible in the area in the near term.
