Indonesia: Demonstrations scheduled across Sumatra region October 9

Demonstrations organized by the Coalition for Act to Save Indonesia (KAMI) are scheduled to take place in the Sumatra region on Friday, October 9. The demonstrations are set to take place in Pekanbaru (Riau province) and Juang Monument (Jambi province), the timing of the events are yet to be announced. The protests are being held to denounce the alleged increasing influence of communism in the country and current government policies.

Related demonstrations are expected to be held in the provinces of Bangka, Belitung, Bengkulu, and Riau Island, although details of the events are awaited.

A heightened security presence and localized disruptions are possible in the vicinity of all demonstrations.
