The US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 6-magnitude earthquake that struck some 99km (61mi) west off the coast of Kandrian (West New Britain province) on Thursday, October 1. The quake struck at 20:34 (local time) at a depth of 109km (67mi). There have been no immediate reports of casualties or infrastructural damage and no tsunami warnings have been issued.
