Indonesia: Hundreds evacuated amid volcanic activity on Lembata Island (East Nusa Tenggara Province) as of November 29

Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency announced on Sunday, November 29, that Mount Ili Lewotolok on Lembata Island had erupted causing hundreds to evacuate the area. The volcano sent smoke and ash 4km (2.5 miles) into the sky and resulted in the closure of local airports and additional flight warnings. Approximately 2780 people have evacuated the surrounding area.

Indonesia's Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation reported the volcano level had been increased to the second-highest level on a four-tier alert system due to increasing threats. The center further announced that hot clouds, lava stream, lava avalanche, and poisonous gas were expected following the eruption.

There have currently been no reports of injury or damage as a result of the eruption to date.
