Peaceful demonstrations have been reported in central areas of Bujumbura, Burundi, Dec. 12. The protests, as well as a high security presence, have been reported in the downtown area. Events have been held to celebrate the country's removal from the UN's political agenda Dec. 4. This means that the UN has ended its mandatory reporting on Burundi.

An increased security presence will likely remain in place across central Bujumbura to monitor associated events and gatherings. Clashes are unlikely; however, transport disruptions are possible in the vicinity of all events.
