Haiti: Officials maintain a nightly curfew, as of Dec. 8; most other COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted /update 9
As of Dec. 8, authorities in Haiti maintain a 0001-0400 curfew, though most COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted and borders are open.
Event
As of Dec. 8, authorities in Haiti maintain a nightly curfew between 0001-0400 curfew, as part of the nation's coronavirus disease (COVID-19) response. All individuals must wear a protective facemask in public spaces and maintain a social distance of 1.5 meters (5 feet) between each other. The measures are likely to remain in place until at least January. Most other COVID-19 related restrictions were lifted at the conclusion of the state of health emergency in July.
International travel restrictions have also been lifted. Bi-national trade has resumed at the land border with the Dominican Republic. Commercial passenger flights at airports in Port-au-Prince (PAP) and Cap Haitien (CAP) are continuing; arriving passengers will be subject to health temperature checks at the airport. Persons arriving from high transmission countries may be required to present a negative COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test issued within 72 hours before departure. Travelers showing symptoms of COVID-19 may be asked to self-quarantine for 14 days.
All measures are subject to amendment at short notice.
Advice
Follow all official instructions. Abide by national health and safety measures. Emphasize basic health precautions, especially frequent handwashing with soap and water, or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are unavailable. Practice good coughing/sneezing etiquette (i.e., covering coughs and sneezes with a disposable tissue, maintaining distance from others, and washing hands). There is no evidence that the influenza vaccine, antibiotics, or antiviral medications will prevent this disease, highlighting the importance of diligent basic health precautions.
