Tunisia: Protesters to gather outside of the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Tunis, Dec. 12

Protesters plan to demonstrate outside of the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Tunis, Tunisa from 1000 Dec. 12. Increased security likely.

Warning

Event

Tunisia’s Free Constitution Party plans to hold a protest outside of the Ministry of Religious Affairs headquarters in Tunis beginning at 1000 on Dec. 12. The purpose of the demonstration is to demand the government sever its agreements with the International Union of Muslim Scholars, a foreign association which the Free Constitution Party alleges interferes with Tunisia's sovereignty.

Heightened security measures, as well as localized transport and business disruptions, are likely in the vicinity of the Ministry of Religious Affairs for the duration of the protest. Clashes between police and protesters remain possible, particularly if demonstrators are overly disruptive.

Advice

Avoid all protests as a standard security precaution. Exercise caution near likely or possible rally locations. Monitor local media for protest activity, as organizers may not announce plans in advance. Confirm the availability of transport and allow additional time to reach destinations. Plan for increased security and localized transport disruptions near demonstration sites. Follow the instructions of all security officials.
