A vehicle drove into a group of Black Lives Matter protesters in central New York City during the afternoon of Dec. 11, injuring at least six people. The incident occurred at approximately 1600 at the corner of 39th Street and Third Avenue in the Murry Hill area. According to initial reports, a few of the protesters had surrounded the vehicle in question, causing the driver to panic and attempt to drive away. Although some of the injured protesters were transported to a local hospital, none of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening. The vehicle remained at the scene and the driver was taken into custody for questioning by investigators.

Given the controversy that typically surrounds such incidents, groups of protesters may linger in the area well into the night of Dec. 11. An increased police presence will probably remain at the scene as a precautionary measure. Localized transport and business disruptions are likely.
