Australia: Authorities to ease measures in Greater Brisbane 1800 Jan. 11-0100 Jan. 22 /update 1
Officials to ease COVID-19 rules in Greater Brisbane, Australia, 1800 Jan. 11-0100 Jan. 22. Minor transport, business disruptions likely.
Event
Queensland authorities will ease protocols in Greater Brisbane, including Ipswich, Logan, Moreton Bay, and Redlands, 1800 Jan. 11-0100 Jan. 22 amid ongoing efforts to stem the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Residents can leave their homes for any purpose. People must wear a facemask in indoor spaces, including public transport vehicles, shopping centers, and places of worship; officials also encourage everyone to wear a facemask at outdoor locations where it is difficult to maintain a 1.5-meter distance with other people. Gatherings at homes and public spaces are capped at 20 people, while funerals and weddings are limited to 100 attendees. Food establishments can host dine-in customers, though no standing is allowed. Businesses can open as long as they adhere to measures. Businesses with indoor premises can host one person per four square meters (43 square feet), though those with a floor space of less than 200 square meters (2,152 square feet) can only host one person per two square meters (22 square feet) and up to 50 people at a time. The density limit for businesses with outdoor premises is one person per two square meters. Public transport can continue to operate normally.
Indoor events with 500 people or less and outdoor events involving 1,000 attendees or less can occur if they adhere to a safety protocol checklist. Officials require a COVID Safe Event Plan for all indoor events above 500 people and outdoor events above 1,000 people. Indoor concert venues, theatres, and outdoor stadiums and amphitheaters can operate with 50 percent of the seating capacity. Fines are likely for noncompliance with regulations.
Authorities will probably maintain increased security measures in the metropolitan area to enforce the restrictions. Minor localized business and transport disruptions are likely in the area.
Advice
Follow all official instructions. Remain polite and nonconfrontational if questioned by security personnel. Avoid crowded areas as a precaution. Stock up on essential supplies. Confirm business appointments in affected areas.
Exercise basic health precautions, especially frequent handwashing with soap and water, or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are unavailable. Practice good coughing/sneezing etiquette (i.e., covering coughs and sneezes with a disposable tissue, maintaining distance from others, and washing hands). There is no evidence that the influenza vaccine, antibiotics, or antiviral medications will prevent this disease, highlighting the importance of diligent basic health precautions.
