Australian officials suspended quarantine-free travel from New Zealand Jan. 25-28. The government's decision follows the discovery of community transmission of the South African variant of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in New Zealand's Northland Region. Authorities will require all passengers from New Zealand to quarantine at the port of entry for at least 72 hours, but the period could last up to 14 days. Officials have asked New Zealand arrivals since Jan. 14 to get a COVID-19 test and self-quarantine until receiving a negative result. The suspension may continue beyond Jan. 28.
