Context

The constituent factions of the Boko Haram militant group have repeatedly conducted attacks on military and civilian positions in the Far North region. The area, close to the border with Nigeria, is a key supply location for the armed factions. Boko Haram attacks in Cameroon remain relatively rare when compared to neighboring countries; however, a recent increase in incidents through 2020 could point to the resurgence of the militant group in the area. The group has conducted several high-fatality operations in regions bordering Chad and Nigeria in recent months.
