Africa: Internet service disruptions continue in parts of Africa as of March 15 /update 2

Internet service disruptions continue across multiple countries in Africa as of March 15. West Africa is most affected.

Warning

Internet service disruptions continue in parts of Africa as of March 15. Affected countries include Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Lesotho, Liberia, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, South Africa, and Togo. The level of disruptions varies depending on the country; disruptions are most severe in West Africa but services have largely resumed in some aforementioned countries. While internet services are improving, the resumption of normal services may take days. The issue has been attributed to multiple undersea cables experiencing faults; the exact cause of the cable failures is unclear.

Disruptions to commercial activities are likely until full services resume, while transport may also be impacted, including airport operations.

Plan accordingly for disruptions to telecommunications and commercial operations. Consider alternative modes of communication for critical business operations. Confirm all flight reservations before heading to the airport.
