Farmers and activists plan to gather at Commission on Human Rights, Metro Manila, Philippines, from 1800 Jan. 20. Tight security likely.

Warning

Event

Farmers from Luzon's Calabarzon Region and activists plan to rally at the Commission on Human Rights in Quezon City, Metro Manila, from 1800 Jan. 20. Around 100 farmers had demonstrated outside Camp Aguinaldo earlier in the day. The protests are to oppose the government's land acquisition and other policies.

Authorities will likely increase security at the Commission on Human Rights and its surrounding area. Localized road closures and business disruptions may occur during the gathering, especially if demonstrators occupy nearby roads. Clashes between protesters and security forces are possible. Mass arrests may occur if security forces consider the action to violate coronavirus disease (COVID-19) restrictions.

Advice

Avoid the Commission on Human Rights and its surrounding areas as a precaution. Plan for possible localized transport and business disruptions. If violence occurs nearby, immediately depart the area. Heed all official security and transport advisories.
