US: Current COVID-19 restrictions in Idaho to remain in place indefinitely as of Jan. 14 /update 16

Authorities in Idaho plan to keep the state's current slate of coronavirus (COVID-19)-related restrictions in place until further notice. As of Jan. 14, Idaho continues under a modified Stage 2 of its economic recovery plan, with restrictions remaining largely unchanged as compared with mid-December 2020.

Under the current directives, gatherings of more than 10 people are prohibited, except for religious ceremonies and political activities. In all cases, participants must adhere to social distancing guidelines. Residents with higher health risks should isolate at home, and all workers are encouraged to work from home whenever possible. Restaurants, bars, and nightclubs can continue operating provided all patrons are seated, and tables are set at least 1.8 meters (six feet) away from each other. Facemasks are only required at long-term care facilities, although authorities urge all residents to wear them while in public.

Local authorities can implement additional restrictions if they consider it necessary within their jurisdictions. In Ada County - home to the state capital, Boise - large gatherings are banned and the use of facemasks is required in public places.

Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.

Advice

Heed the instructions of the local authorities. Emphasize basic health precautions, especially frequent handwashing with soap and water, or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are unavailable. Practice good coughing/sneezing etiquette (i.e., covering coughs and sneezes with a disposable tissue, maintaining distance from others, and washing hands). There is no evidence that the influenza vaccine, antibiotics, or antiviral medications will prevent this disease, highlighting the importance of diligent basic health precautions.
