Maldives: Authorities imposing overnight curfew, strict measures across Fuvahmulah through Feb. 21 due to COVID-19 activity

Maldivian authorities have imposed a 2000-0400 nightly curfew across Fuvahmulah city through at least Feb. 21 due to increased coronavirus disease (COVID-19) activity. Suspensions to public movement, business operations, and nonessential vehicle movement will be in effect during curfew hours. Grooming services and all dine-in eateries are closed; food delivery services are operational. Officials have also banned gatherings of more than three people in the region; residents must avoid inter-divisional travel within the city, as well as visiting other households. Extensions to the orders are possible.

Other nationwide COVID-19 controls continue. Educational institutions, sporting venues, and most public spaces remain closed. All residents aged above two years old must wear facemasks in public. Establishments are required to ensure sanitation and social distancing. Authorities are advising businesses in locations with COVID-19 activity to minimize on-site work. Violators of COVID-19 rules will face fines of up to MVR 5,000 (USD 325). Officials could amend measures at short notice, depending on COVID-19 cases.

Fuvahmulah is approximately 505 km (314 miles) south of Male.
