Further protests and sit-ins are likely to continue outside Douleb oil field in Kasserine Governorate through February. Protesters are demanding that authorities create employment and begin development projects in the region. Security forces employed tear gas to disperse the protesters, Feb. 17. Protesters could stop production at the field by shutting down an oil pumping valve if authorities do not meet their demands.
Security personnel will almost certainly deploy to monitor the demonstrations. Heightened security measures, as well as localized transport and business disruptions, are likely for the duration of the protests.
