Warning

Event

Authorities estimate that delays along sections of the Dongzheng Line will likely continue through 05:00 April 9 following the April 2 train derailment near the Daqingshui Tunnel near Xiulin Township, Hualien County. The incident has killed at least 50 people and injured 146 others; casualty counts could rise. Preliminary information suggests that an unoccupied truck apparently rolled onto the track causing the accident.

Rail traffic is currently using single track between Heren and Chongde stations. Increased demand, along with investigations and repair work, may prompt traffic disruptions along nearby sections of the Suhua Highway (Provincial Highway 9).

Advice

Plan for localized traffic disruptions near the incident site in Xiulin. Confirm rail reservations if scheduled to travel on the Dongzheng Line.
