Guyana: Health officials extend COVID-19-related measures through at least June 30 /update 23

Event

Officials in Guayana extended the restrictions imposed to stem the spread of COVID-19 through at least June 30. The following measures remain in effect:

• A nightly 22:30-4:00 nationwide curfew is in force. Most authorized businesses may operate between the hours of 04:00-21:30 daily.

• Public sector employees are working on a rotational basis unless otherwise instructed by authorities.

• Places of worship, gyms, fitness centers, and restaurants (for indoor and outdoor dining) are operating at limited capacity.

• Social activities are prohibited, including hosting or visiting cinemas, private parties, receptions, entertainment establishments (bars, rum shops, clubs, and discotheques), public pools, and vigils and wakes.

• Recreational activities at rivers, creeks, beaches, swimming pools, and internal waters are prohibited.

• Individuals must wear facemasks in public spaces.

Businesses, government establishments, and other facilities allowed to operate must adhere to government mandates, including enhanced sanitization procedures, compliance with social distancing guidelines, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE), among other directives. Such requirements may vary by industry or type of establishment.

International and Domestic Travel
International commercial flight operations continue at Cheddi Jagan International (GEO) and Eugene Correia International (OGL) airports, except for flights to and from Brazil. The Guyana-Suriname ferry service at the Moleson Creek Crossing is operating three days per week. All other ports of entry and exit remain closed to most non-resident foreign nationals. Authorities have tightened security at the land border with Brazil; the Lethem crossing is open once a week to facilitate the movement of essential goods and supplies.

Persons entering Guyana by air must still complete an online Passenger Locator Form at least 24 hours before travel and are required to upload a negative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test result. The test must be taken no more than seven days before travel, with the following two category options:

• Test taken up to 72 hours before travel: Travelers will be subject to additional health screenings at the airport, including temperature checks; however, there will be no further testing or quarantine requirements.

• Test taken 4-7 days before travel: Travelers will be subject to additional health screenings at the airport, including temperature checks, as well as a second COVID-19 test on arrival at the traveler's expense. Those who test positive may be subject to quarantine protocols at the discretion of the health officials.

Domestic travel by land, sea, and air is strictly limited to government purposes and travel to obtain or provide essential goods and services.

Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks. Authorities could impose highly targeted localized measures in some communities in response to increased activity.
