Critical

Event

Authorities in Haiti have declared a health state of emergency in effect until at least May 30 and reintroduced tighter measures to curb the spread of COVID-19. Under the new restrictions, a longer nightly curfew will be in effect 22:00-05:00. Gatherings of more than 10 people are banned, and temperature checks must be carried out for entry to all public and private institutions and businesses, including offices, schools, banks, universities, health centers, hospitals, and places of worship. Authorities have ordered individuals to wear protective facemasks in all public places and comply with social distancing standards of 1.5 meters (5 feet) between persons. The government encourages all persons who can work from home to do so.

The state of emergency could be extended and tighter measures implemented if cases continue to rise.

International Travel Restrictions
International travel restrictions remain in place. All travelers arriving in Haiti, regardless of country of origin, must present a negative result from an antigen or polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test taken within 72 hours before boarding their flights.

Commercial passenger flights are operating at Toussaint Louverture International Airport (PAP) in Port-au-Prince and at Cap Haitien International Airport (CAP); incoming passengers are subject to body temperature checks on arrival. Travelers showing symptoms of COVID-19 may be asked to self-quarantine for 14 days. Haiti's land border with the Dominican Republic is open to pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Authorities in the Dominican Republic often restrict movements at the land border during periods of heightened unrest in Haiti.

Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.
