Jordan: Independence Day celebrations to occur nationwide May 25

Jordan will observe Independence Day and hold celebrations nationwide, May 25. The national holiday commemorates the ratification of the Treaty of London in 1946 and the end of British rule. Government offices, schools, banks, and many businesses will be closed throughout Jordan. Celebrations will consist of a variety of events, possibly including military parades in major cities such as Amman, Irbid, and Aqaba.

Increased deployments of security personnel are highly likely near any major celebrations and along parade routes. Localized transportation disruptions could occur in the vicinity of large events.
