An explosion occurred outside the home of former president and current Speaker of the People's Majlis Mohamed Nasheed on Neeloafaru Magu in Male late May 6. The blast injured Nasheed and at least one other person. There were no immediate claims of responsibility for the incident.

A heavy security presence has deployed to the incident scene, nearby areas, and various government buildings in Male. Authorities will almost certainly maintain heightened security across the city through at least May 7. Security-related operations could result in localized road travel disruptions.
