Puerto Rico: Authorities to ease COVID-19-related nightly curfew effective May 10 /update 23
Puerto Rico to relax nightly curfew effective May 10 as part of ongoing response to COVID-19.
Event
Authorities in Puerto Rico plan to relax the territory's COVID-19-related nightly curfew. Effective May 10, the curfew will be shortened, with new curfew hours running 00:01-05:00 instead of 22:00-05:00. In conjunction with the new measure, businesses and restaurants will be allowed to operate until 23:00. The sale of alcoholic beverages is prohibited after 23:00. The amended curfew will remain in place through at least May 23. During curfew hours, all persons, except those providing essential services or attending to a medical emergency, must remain in their homes.
Other restrictions remain largely unchanged, including the social distancing mandates and 30 percent capacity cap under which most businesses must operate. Similar directives also apply to beaches, marinas, and parks. Recreational centers, clubs, and bars remain closed.
International Travel
While the borders have reopened to all travelers, arriving passengers must wear protective face coverings and will be subject to enhanced health screenings and protocols. Travelers are requested to present a negative result from a COVID-19 test taken no more than 72 hours prior to arrival. Those arriving without such documentation can either be tested at the airport or must get tested within 48 hours of arrival and must remain in quarantine at their own expense while awaiting the results. Travelers who test positive for COVID-19 will be subject to a mandatory 14-day self-quarantine at their own expense.
Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.
Advice
