Puerto Rico: Authorities to end COVID-19-related nightly curfew effective May 24 /update 24
Puerto Rico to end nightly curfew effective May 24 as part of further relaxation of COVID-19 measures.
Event
Authorities in Puerto Rico have announced that the territory's 00:01-05:00 COVID-19-related curfew will end effective May 24. Additionally, most businesses and restaurants will be allowed to open 05:00-23:59; restaurants in hotels may operate beyond this hour, but they can only serve hotel guests. Establishments such as pharmacies and gas stations may operate without time constraints. Nightclubs and bars remain closed. Officials have raised capacity restrictions for businesses in enclosed spaces to 50 percent and abolished capacity limits for most open-air businesses. Social distancing and mask-wearing requirements continue to apply except in particular circumstances.
International Travel
While the borders have reopened to all travelers, arriving passengers must wear protective face coverings and will be subject to enhanced health screenings and protocols. Travelers must present a negative result from a COVID-19 test taken no more than 72 hours before arrival or prove that they are fully vaccinated. Those arriving without such documentation can either be tested at the airport or within 48 hours of arrival; they must remain in quarantine at their own expense while awaiting the results. Travelers who test positive for COVID-19 will be subject to a mandatory 14-day self-quarantine at their own expense.
Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.
Advice
Follow all official instructions. Reconfirm all travel arrangements and business appointments. Ensure contingency plans account for further disruptive measures or extensions of current restrictions.
