Authorities in Queensland have ordered a three-day lockdown in Greater Brisbane, Townsville, and Palm Island in response to recent COVID-19 activity. The controls apply to the following local government areas:

  • Brisbane

  • Gold Coast

  • Ipswich

  • Lockyer Valley

  • Logan

  • Moreton Bay

  • Noosa

  • Palm Island Aboriginal Shire

  • Redlands

  • Scenic Rim

  • Somerset

  • Sunshine Coast

  • Townsville City

Residents and persons who work in these locations must stay at home. Exceptions are in place for individuals seeking medical care or working in essential industries. Residents may also go out to engage in exercise or to purchase essential goods. Only two visitors are allowed in residences. Facemasks are mandatory for indoor public places.

All businesses, except those providing essential goods or services, will remain closed for the duration of the lockdown. Restaurants may operate on a carryout basis. Individuals with recent travel history in affected areas are highly likely to face entry restrictions in other parts of Australia.

Officials may extend the duration of the controls, or apply the measures to additional areas, at short notice in the coming days.

Advice

Follow all official instructions. Remain polite and nonconfrontational if questioned by security personnel. Avoid crowded areas as a precaution. Stock up on essential supplies when possible. Postpone nonessential travel to and from affected areas.
