Authorities have deployed additional police in the Na'ur area of the Greater Amman Municipality June 6 following an earlier shooting incident. The shooting took place during an unauthorized protest denouncing parliament's ban of legislator Osama al-Ajarma. According to emerging reports, demonstrators fired towards police lines, who in turn responded with tear gas. No reports of casualties have been released.
Authorities will likely maintain an elevated security posture in Na'ur through at least June 6. Security officials state all persons attempting to join the protest will be arrested. At least four members of the Jordanian security services were injured late June 5 while responding to disorder, burning vehicles, and shootings in Na'ur.
Na'ur is located approximately 11 km (7 miles) from central Amman.
