Rwanda: Authorities enforce adjusted COVID-19-related restrictions in some districts, as of June 21 /update 24

Rwanda adjusts COVID-19 measures in some districts from June 17; measures in place as of June 21. Nationwide 21:00-04:00 curfew remains.

Officials adjusted COVID-19-related domestic measures in select districts, June 17. According to the new directive, a 19:00-04:00 curfew is in effect in the Rubavu and Rutsiro Districts and in parts of the Burera, Gicumbi, and Nyagatare districts. Movement to and from Rubavu is prohibited.

Under measures still in place, a nationwide curfew runs from 21:00-04:00. In addition, officials are implementing the following measures:

  • Public transport buses may run at a 50-percent capacity.

  • Public offices may operate at a 30-percent capacity. Private sector offices may operate at a 50-percent capacity. Businesses must close at 20:00.

  • Religious meetings may not exceed a 30-percent capacity while private gatherings are also restricted.

  • Cafes and restaurants may operate at a 30-percent capacity and must close by 20:00. Bars are closed.

  • Tourism activity can continue with health measures in place.

  • Gyms can operate at a 10-percent capacity.

International travel
International passengers arriving and departing Kigali International Airport (KGL) must present a negative result from a COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours before departure. Arriving travelers may be forced to take a PCR test and quarantine at a designated hotel for 24 hours while waiting for the result. Persons arriving from India must enter mandatory quarantine at a designated hotel for seven days at their own cost. Entry via land borders remains restricted.

Advice

Follow all official instructions. Abide by national health and safety measures. Reconfirm all travel arrangements. Consider delaying traveling if experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, as they may prompt increased scrutiny and delays. Liaise with trusted contacts for further updates and guidance. Maintain contact with your diplomatic representation. Ensure contingency plans account for further disruptive measures or extensions of current restrictions.
