Haitian authorities have declared a period of national mourning July 22-23 following the death of former President Jovenel Moise. Government officials have announced that businesses, schools, and public administration offices must close nationwide July 22-23.
Mass gatherings are likely in the vicinity of Cap-Haitien's Our Lady of the Assumption Cathedral as a mass, march, and vigil are planned July 22. The funeral will be held in the private residence of Moise's family, located outside of the city center, July 23. Additional ceremonies and gatherings for Moise are possible nationwide, especially in Cap-Haitien, Port-de-Paix, and Port-au-Prince.
As officials and high-profile individuals are likely to attend the funeral, heightened security is likely and will almost certainly cause significant traffic and business disruptions in Cap-Haitien through at least July 23. Police will also almost certainly be deployed along any procession routes. The threat of violence is elevated at all public gatherings.

Avoid large crowds and all demonstrations as a standard security precaution. Keep away from areas where security personnel appear to be deploying. Heed all instructions from authorities and allow additional travel time near gatherings.
