Afghanistan-Pakistan border at Chaman-Spin Boldak crossing is operational as of Aug. 19. Tight security measures likely to continue.

Warning

Event

The Chaman-Spin Boldak border crossing between Afghanistan and Pakistan is open as of Aug. 19. The Taliban had shut the border Aug. 6-13 to demand the Pakistani authorities provide visa-free travel for Afghan citizens and address the alleged mistreatment of Afghans in Pakistan. Reports indicate that thousands of Afghan nationals have entered Pakistan through the Chaman-Spin Boldak border crossing after the Taliban took over control of Afghanistan.

Pakistani officials have continued to deploy additional security personnel to the region as a precaution. Some ground traffic disruptions and shipping delays between the two nations may continue to occur, particularly due to the movement of Afghan citizens to Pakistan.

Advice

Reconfirm the status of the crossing before travel or processing cargo shipments through the area. Maintain heightened levels of vigilance in the area. Avoid any concentrations of security personnel. Heed all traffic and security advisories.
