Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has declared three days of national mourning throughout the country beginning Aug. 12 amid wildfires in several provinces, including Tizi Ouzou, Setif, and Bejaia. The wildfires have killed at least 65 people, including 28 soldiers. Firefighters and the Algerian military have been attempting to extinguish more than 60 fires in recent days.

Except for government offices that offer essential services, all other government agencies will cease operations during the mourning period. Disruptions to private business operations are also likely. Commemorative events and associated road closures are likely nationwide during the mourning period, especially in Algiers.
