China: Authorities imposing restrictions in parts of Pudong District, Shanghai as of Aug. 3 due to COVID-19 concerns

Authorities have introduced restrictions in parts of Shanghai after discovering community COVID-19 cases. As of Aug. 3, officials have designated the Xinyuanxiyuan Community in the city's Pudong District as a medium-risk area. Residents of the location and individuals with recent exposure must remain in their homes; exceptions may be possible for essential reasons. Authorities are implementing tight controls in nearby areas and will probably close most nonessential businesses and restrict travel to and from adjacent communities. Officials may also impose gathering and business restrictions in other areas of Shanghai as a precaution.

Most provincial and municipal governments require individuals who have recently traveled to affected areas of Pudong District to undergo a mandatory institutional quarantine period. Increased health screenings are likely at passenger transport hubs throughout Shanghai. Generalized controls on long-distance travel from Shanghai may be imposed in the coming days.
