DRC: Civil society group plans sit-in outside the People's Palace in Kinshasa Aug. 12

The Struggle for Change (LUCHA) civil society organization plans to hold a sit-in outside the People's Palace in Kinshasa from 11:00 Aug. 12. LUCHA and other activists are calling for the depoliticization of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI). Dozens of people could participate in the action.

Heightened security, as well as localized business and transport disruptions, are likely near the demonstration site. Clashes are possible if police use force to disperse protesters.

Advice

Avoid all gatherings and protests due to the risk of violence. Seek alternative routes and allow additional time to reach destinations in central Kinshasa Aug. 12. Leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation.
