Warning

Event

The government of Suriname plans to maintain most of its existing COVID-19-related restrictions through at least Aug. 31.

Domestic Measures
A nightly 21:00-06:00 curfew remains in place. Only persons working in essential services and those having a permit from the Ministry of Justice and Peace may be outside their residences during curfew hours. Authorities have established checkpoints on several major roads to enforce the measure.

Additionally, gatherings of more than 10 people are generally banned with certain exceptions such as work-related meetings that follow established health protocols and family social gatherings within a single household. Funerals are limited to no more than 25 attendees; places of worship may accommodate a maximum of 50 people at a time. Consumption of alcohol in public places is banned. Individual sports are permitted; however, contact sports remain banned. Facemasks must be worn in all places outside of the home. Telecommuting is encouraged where possible.

International Travel Restrictions
International commercial passenger flights remain mostly suspended; however, cargo flights are exempt from most restrictions. Land and sea borders remain closed to most travelers.

Fully vaccinated individuals may enter Suriname for any reason but must also provide a negative result from a PCR COVID-19 test taken no more than 72 hours prior to travel as well as proof of vaccination.

Unvaccinated individuals are allowed to travel to Suriname only for essential purposes or repatriation; these travelers are required to provide a negative result from a PCR COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours prior to arrival and complete a mandatory seven-day quarantine at a government-approved location.

Authorities could reimpose, extend, further tighten, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.
