The Taliban opened fire on protesters outside the Herat governor’s office in Herat city the afternoon of Sept. 7. Dozens of people had gathered to denounce the Taliban. One person was reportedly killed and at least three others wounded, though additional casualties may be reported in the coming hours.

Taliban forces will likely deploy additional personnel and may set up checkpoints around the impact area through Sept. 7. Localized transport disruptions are possible.
