Guyana: Officials extend domestic COVID-19 measures through at least Oct. 31; update travel restrictions /update 27

Event

Officials in Guyana have extended most existing COVID-19-related domestic restrictions until at least Oct. 31. Authorities have updated some requirements for international arrivals. While completing a health declaration form is no longer required, passengers must present a negative PCR test dated within 72 hours of arrival in Guyana alongside proof of being fully vaccinated.

The following domestic measures remain in effect:

• A 22:30-04:00 nationwide curfew is in force. Most authorized businesses may operate 04:00-21:30 daily.

• Public sector employees are working on a rotational basis unless otherwise instructed by authorities.

• Places of worship, cinemas, fitness centers, gyms, casinos, and restaurants (i.e., for both indoor and outdoor dining) are operating at limited capacity; several businesses require proof of vaccination for all adults.

• Social activities are prohibited, including private parties, receptions, clubs, discotheques, vigils, and wakes.

• Recreational activities at rivers, creeks, beaches, swimming pools, and internal waters are prohibited.

• Individuals must wear facemasks in public spaces, workspaces, and on public transport.

Businesses, government establishments, and other facilities allowed to operate must adhere to government mandates related to enhanced sanitization procedures, social distancing guidelines, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), among other directives. Such requirements may vary by industry or type of establishment.

International and Domestic Travel
Persons entering Guyana must present proof of being fully vaccinated and a negative PCR test result. The test must have been taken no more than 72 hours before arrival. Travelers will be subject to additional health screenings at the airport, including temperature checks.

Except for flights to and from Brazil, international commercial flight operations are active at Cheddi Jagan International (GEO) and Eugene F. Correia International (OGL) airports. The Guyana-Suriname ferry service at the Moleson Creek Crossing is operating three days per week. All other ports of entry and exit remain closed to most nonresident foreign nationals. Authorities have tightened security at the land border with Brazil. The Lethem crossing is open once per week to facilitate the movement of essential goods and supplies.

Domestic travel by land, sea, and air is strictly limited to government purposes and to obtain or provide essential goods and services.

Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on COVID-19 activity over the coming weeks. Authorities could impose highly targeted localized measures in some communities in response to increased disease activity.
