Opposition activists have called for nationwide protests starting 12:00 Oct. 23. Organizers have not openly disclosed where the gatherings will take place; however, demonstrations may occur in town squares. The purpose of the protests is to demand the release of political prisoners as well as higher salaries and pensions. The actions have not been approved by authorities.
Security forces will likely deploy in the vicinity of any potential protest venues and quickly disperse any unauthorized gatherings. Officers will not hesitate to use force if resisted.
