Informational

Event

Activists from the Thalufah group plan to protest at the Supreme Court in Bangkok from 17:30 Oct. 20. The action is to denounce Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha's administration and call for the right to bail detained political activists. Dozens to hundreds of people could participate in the action.

Authorities will likely increase security at Supreme Court during the demonstration. Localized transport disruptions and road closures are possible at the protest venue, including along Ratchadamnoen Nai Road. Police may conduct mass arrests if they determine the action violates COVID-19 restrictions, lese majeste laws, or permit requirements. Clashes between police and protesters are possible; security forces have fired rubber bullets, tear gas, and water cannon at pro-democracy activists during recent demonstrations in Bangkok.

Advice

Avoid the Supreme Court the evening of Oct. 20 due to possible clashes. Plan for possible localized transport disruptions. If violence occurs nearby, immediately depart the area and seek shelter at a safe, nongovernment building. Heed all official security and transport advisories.
