Warning

Event

The U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a tornado watch for parts of Colorado, Kansas, and Nebraska in effect until at least 23:00 CDT Oct. 12. Damaging winds, hail, frequent lightning, heavy rain, and flash flooding are possible in the region, regardless of whether tornadoes reach the ground. Authorities could extend or expand the weather advisory at short notice. The watch area includes parts of eastern Colorado, western Kansas, and southwestern Nebraska.

Localized transport and utility disruptions are possible in areas under the tornado watch; strong straight-line winds may pose a hazard to high-profile vehicles. Driving conditions may be difficult on rural routes and regional highways.

Advice

Exercise caution. Monitor local media for weather updates. Be prepared to quickly move to a safe location if authorities issue a tornado warning for your location. Postpone nonessential driving until weather conditions improve. Charge battery-powered devices in case prolonged electricity outages occur.
