Unionized teachers in Tunisia plan to strike nationwide Nov. 12 to protest alleged violence in schools. Demonstrations possible.

Informational

Event

Teachers affiliated with the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) plan to strike nationwide Nov. 12. The labor action is to denounce the stabbing of a high school teacher by a student at a high school in Ezzahra, Ben Arous Governorate, Nov. 8. Union leaders are demanding that authorities take action to prevent the alleged growing violence against teachers in educational institutions.

There have been no calls for related protest actions; however, associated demonstrations are possible outside the Ministry of Education in Tunis, schools, and the Regional Directorates of Education across the country. Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are possible if protests occur, especially if there is a large turnout.

Advice

Monitor local media or check with trusted local contacts for updates on any protests. Use caution near schools and popular rally sites, as demonstrations may not be announced in advance. Allow extra time if traveling through affected areas Nov. 12.
