Militants killed a Special Reserve Inspector in an attack on the village of Naulala, Mecula District, Niassa Province Dec. 22. Amid the attack, militants also reportedly kidnapped numerous individuals in the village. The victims' location remains unknown. The attack comes amid an increase in violence in Niassa Province as militants in neighboring Cabo Delgado Province begin to operate there to bypass the significant security force presence in Cabo Delgado. Similar attacks are possible in the coming days.
