Jordan: Protests reported near State Security Court in Amman and on Dead Sea Highway as of late Jan. 26

Protests reported near State Security Court in Amman, Jordan, and on Dead Sea Highway late Jan. 26; increased security, disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

Protests have been reported near the State Security Court in Amman and on the Dead Sea Highway as of late Jan. 26. The protests are in response to the sentencing of former Member of Parliament Osama al-Ajarmah earlier in the day. Protesters had reportedly closed the Dead Sea Highway in both directions. Further protest activity is likely near Abdoun Bridge and in the Na'ur area over the coming hours.

Increased security and localized transport disruptions are likely in the affected areas through at least late Jan. 26. Clashes between police and protesters cannot be ruled out, particularly if demonstrators are overly disruptive or if they ignore police orders to disperse.

Advice

Avoid the protests due to the potential for clashes. Heed the advice of security personnel. Allow additional time if traveling near or through affected areas Jan. 26; consider taking alternative routes to circumvent related disruptions.
