Commercial and passenger rail service has reportedly resumed normal operations in Kazakhstan as of Jan. 9. Officials had delayed and suspended dozens of passenger trains and more than 120 freight train services amid recent widespread civil unrest in the country. Notably, rail infrastructure had reportedly not suffered any damage despite the violence.

While service has resumed, residual disruptions (e.g., slightly longer travel times) remain possible in light of the unrest and associated security operations.
