Papua New Guinea's government will hold a state funeral for former Member of Parliament Sam Akoitai in Port Moresby Jan. 5. Akoitai's body will lie-in-state at the National Parliament House 09:00-10:00. The state funeral will occur at Rev Sione Kami Memorial Church 13:00-16:00. Akoitai's body will be flown to Buka Jan. 6.

Increased security is likely near sites hosting official funeral events, especially Rev Sioni Kami Memorial Church. Officers could temporarily block roads in the capital to facilitate a procession from Parliament House to the church. Heightened security is also possible near Port Moresby International Airport (POM) before the deceased leader arrives at the airport. Localized transport disruptions are likely near events.
